ARMENIA: CATHOLICOS MAY VISIT AZERBAIJAN
1/08/10
Armenia's chief cleric, Catholicos Garegin II, is expected to visit
Azerbaijan to attend an inter-faith summit in April, according to a
report distributed by the APA news agency. Religious communities in
both, largely conservative countries have maintained little contact
since Armenia and Azerbaijan cut nearly all ties because of the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The conference is organized by the Baku-based Organization of Caucasus
Muslims and the Russian Orthodox Church. The first such summit took
place in Moscow in 2006. Almost two hundred religious leaders from 48
countries converged on Moscow for that gathering, and organizers hope
that even more guests will arrive for Baku summit, APA report stated.
