ARFD DEMANDS INVALIDATION OF ARMENIAN-TURKISH PROTOCOLS

The participants of a rally and following march held in Yerevan
today demanded that the RA Constitutional Court invalidate
the Armenian-Turkish protocols as unconstitutional or partially
unconstitutional. The demand was incorporated in statement read aloud
in front of the RA Constitutional Court.

The Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARFD) states
that, despite the commitments the Armenian authorities assumed, the
protocols signed on October 10 contain at least three preconditions set
by the Turkish side. In its message to the RA Constitutional Court the
ARF points out that the implementation of the protocols will out an end
to the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide
and create legal underpinnings for ruling out any challenges to the
inviolability of the present-day Armenian-Turkish border thereby
consolidating the illegal Treaties of Kars and Moscow. The third
precondition is, according to the ARF, are attempts to get a settlement
of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in Azerbaijan's favor by linking the
Armenian-Turkish reconciliation to the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.

With torches burning, the demonstrators approved the message, which,
according to them, contains a list of violations of procedures of
initialing and signing the Armenian-Turkish protocols.

Tomorrow the RA Constitutional Court is to start considering the issue
of constitutionality of the protocols. On this occasion the supporters
of one of the nationalist parties gathered near the monument to Stepan
Shahumyan, one of the companions of Vladimir Lenin and leader of
the Baku commune. They must have forgotten about their long-standing
confrontation with Bolsheviks. Among the speakers were Chairman of the
Ramkavar-Azatakan Party of Armenia Harutyun Arakelyan and Chairman
of the New Times Party Aram Karapetyan. The leaders of the Heritage
Party attended the rally as well. Carrying placards with appeals for
rejecting the Armenian-Turkish protocols and singing patriotic songs
composed early last century, the participants marched from Marshtots
Avenue to the RA Constitutional Court.
