ILLEGAL BORDER CROSSING CASES ON ARMENIAN-AZERBAIJANI CONTACT LINE REPORTED RECENTLY

YEREVAN, JANUARY 12, NOYAN TAPAN. Eldar Heydar ogli Tagiev, 47,
resident of the village of Alibeyli in Tovuz region of Azerbaijan was
arrested during an attempt to illegally cross the border in Tavush
marz of Armenia at about 9 am on December 28, 2009.
The Information and PR Department of the RA Ministry of Defense
reports that a case of illegal crossing of the Armenian-Azerbaijani
border at Yeraskh-Nakhijevan section took place at about 7 pm on
January 10. The driver of a ErAZ car - Armenian citizen Yeghishe
Gevorgian, 52, along with his wife and three children aged 7, 6 and
3 - ignored the warning orders of Armenian frontier guards, forced
his way through the barriers at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border,
crossed the border and entered the territory of Nakhijevan - under
fire from the Azerbaijani side. The Armenian frontier guards did not
open fire because of the three children in the car. Y. Gevorgian has
been convicted 8 times of robbery, car theft and other crimes.
The appropriate international organizations were informed about
the indicated incidents. Criminal cases were opened, details of the
incidents are being clarified.
