    ICRC APPEALS TO APPROPRIATE ARMENIAN BODIES FOR VISITING AZERBAIJANI HOSTAGE ELDAR TAGIYEV

    Baku. Kamala Guliyeva- APA. The Armenian representation of the
    International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has already been
    informed about resident of Alibayli village of Tovuz region Tagiyev
    Eldar Heydar taken hostage by Armenian servicemen on December 28,
    2009, spokesperson for Azerbaijani representation of ICRC Gulnaz
    Guliyeva told APA. She said that Tagiyev had not been visited
    yet. The committee's Armenian representation has already appealed
    to the appropriate bodies of Armenia for visiting the hostage and
    monitoring his detention conditions.

    Guliyeva said ICRC Azerbaijani representation had not been informed
    about the Armenian Yegishe Petrosovich Gevorkyan and his family,
    who crossed the Azerbaijani border on January 10, therefore they had
    not been visited yet.

    Armenian Defense Ministry officially confirmed that Azerbaijani Eldar
    Tagiyev had been taken hostage on December 28. According to Armenian
    Defense Ministry's press service, the Azerbaijani was detained when
    attempted to illegally cross the border.

    "The international organizations have been informed about it. Criminal
    case has been launched, investigation is underway."

    Reports spread that Tovuz resident Tagiyev Eldar Heydar was killed,
    as Armenians violated ceasefire. According to the reports, Armenians
    fired at Tagiyev Eldar Heydar near the line of contact. Tagiyev died
    on the spot, his body remained on the line of contact for some time,
    later taken away by the Armenians.

    According to other reports, Tagiyev was taken hostage by Armenians.

    The State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing
    Persons officially stated that Eldar Tagiyev had been taken hostage
    by Armenians.
