    /PanARMENIAN.Net/ Representing the U.S., an Armenian chess player
    Varuzhan Hakobyan , silver medalist of the world team championship,
    takes part in the international chess festival between January 16 and
    31 in the Dutch city of Wijk aan Zee. Hakobyan (2628) plays in the
    "B" tournament.

    Varuzhan Hakobyan in the first round played a draw with Anna Muzuchuk
    (Slovenia), while in the second round lost to Arkadi Naiditsch
    (Germany).

    After 2 rounds Hakobyan with 0.5 points takes 9th place out of 14.

    Anish Gehry (The Netherlands) with 2 points is the leader of the
    tournament "B". The tournament will end on January 31.

    Varuzhan Hakobyan Armenian grandmaster. In 1992, took 3rd place in
    the Junior Championships of Armenia. At the world championship among
    juniors (Czechoslovakia) Hakobyan won 8th place among 50 participants.

    Since 2002 represented the United States, and in 2005 took 8th place
    in Alajuela Open Champion tournament. In 2006 won the bronze medal in
    the Chess Olympiad. In 2007 he was second in the World Open Champion.

    In 2008 he became the winner of the Chicago Open tournament .

    Chess festival in Wijk aan Zee is the International Chess Tournament,
    which takes place annually in the Dutch city of Wijk aan Zee.

    In 2008, the Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian became the winner of
    the tournament.
