SERHED TV CHANNEL OF KARS: EVERYDAY 150 TURKISH TIR VEHICLES LEAVE FOR ARMENIA THROUGH GEORGIA

Kars - APA. Serhed TV channel of Kars and Lori TV channel broadcasted
in Gyumri, Armenia signed a protocol on cooperation, APA reports
quoting the Radikal newspaper.
The employees of the Serhed TV channel went to Armenia and prepared
reports from Gyumri. Serhed TV is owned by former head of Kars
municipality Naif Alibeyoglu.
The program head of the channel Alican Alibeyoglu said the project
aimed to eliminate the problems between Armenian and Turkish nations,
make the two nations closer. Alibeyoglu said everyday 150 Turkish
TIR vehicles leave for Armenia through Georgia and underlined that
the borders between the two countries are formally closed.
"80 percent of the goods sold in Armenia are produced in Turkey. The
two countries operate flights. The borders are closed symbolically.
All are expecting the problems between Armenia and Azerbaijan to be
solved and the borders to be opened," he said.
Presenter of Serhed TV Ozgur Togrul said their goal is to improve
the friendship between the journalists of the two countries.
"Our colleagues from Armenia came to Kars, we visited this country.
The atmosphere of mutual confidence is being formed. Particularly the
young people approach the issues more peacefully and want the opening
of the borders. The Turkish and Armenian cultures are alike. We want
to develop the relations in this field," he said.
The owner of the TV channel Naif Alibeyoglu was pursing active policy
for the opening of the borders with Armenia while he was head of Kars
municipality. Naif Alibeyoglu had initiated to hold joint festivals
in Kars, erect monument in Kars symbolizing the Turkish-Armenian
friendship and fraternize Gyumri and Kars.
Various European foundations offered financial assistance to
Alibeyoglu's initiatives aiming to normalize the relations with
Armenia.
