YEREVAN, JANUARY 27, NOYAN TAPAN. At the invitation of executives
of Tuyap - one of Turkey's largest organizations holding fairs, an
Armenian delegation headed by Chairman of the RA Chamber of Commerce
and Industry (CCI), National Assembly deputy Martin Sargsyan will
visit Istanbul in February. Executive Director of CCI Arayik Vardanian
announced on January 27 that the opportunities of promoting economic
relations between the two countries will be discussed at the meeting.
According to him, a delegation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry
of Van Province (Turkey) paid a visit to Armenia recently and made
a proposal for cooperation. A. Vardanian said that the Turkish side
envisages encouraging tourism in the province through Armenia - prior
to the decision on the border's opening to be taken by politicians.
A. Vardanian did not share the concern that in case of opening the
Armenian-Turkish border, the Armenian market will be glutted with
cheap Turkish goods, thus causing damage to the Armenian manufacturer.
In his words, those goods, which "were to invade the Armenian market,
invaded 10-15 years ago".
Speaking about the 2010 plans of RA CII, he said they envisage
organizing an exhibition of Armenian goods in Syria in the autumn.
Under the agreements with India, this year too, exhibition-sales of
Indian commodities will be held in Yerevan in the spring and autumn.
There are also plans to hold an exhibition of goods made in
Eastern Europe and Baltic states in Yerevan as well as to ensure the
participation of Armenian businessmen in the international fair Resale
2010 in Germany on April 21-23.
The RA CII was founded in 2002. It has 11 regional bodies, including
one in Yerevan. Among its members are nearly 3,000 companies,
70% of which are small and medium enterprises. The RA CII has 20
representative offices in other countries. In 2008 an arbitration
court at the RA CII was established.
