APOSTLE PAUL PERMITTED EATING VEGETATIVE FOOD ON FAST

    Friday, January 29

Today is the 5th day of Fast of Catechumen. And though in ancient
times people fasted for 5 days which had the meaning of cleaning the
5 sense organs nowadays the Armenian Apostolic church has allowed
using food of exceptionally vegetative origin and the only exception
is considered to be honey, which is actually the milk of the living
being but is prepared of plants.

Why only vegetative food is allowed and why is forbidden the living
food? To this question answered deacon of the Holy See of Echmiadzin
Hamlet Movsisyan. He told us that the real meaning of the word fast
("pahk" in Armenian) is "being aware of", depriving yourself of
    something.

"In the first period in the Old Testimony and in New Testimony fasting
meant being aware of food, not eating and fasting", - explained
    deacon Hamlet.

Deacon Hamlet informed that after the permission of Apostle Paul to
eat plants if you feel week during the fast the menu of the food little
by little enlarged and eating light meal became the new way of fasting.
