Breast cancer is on the rise among women's illnesses, said today Head
of Armenian-American Health Center Khachanush Hakobyan.
Hakobyan reminded that the best way of avoiding breast cancer
is prevention. "Women can prevent breast cancer by visiting their
doctors once a year. Like other cancers, breast cancer can be treated
to extend a woman's lifetime, if the disease is in the first stage,"
says Khachanush Hakobyan.
The late stage is when the woman feels a lump on her breast.
In the course of 13 years, the center has conducted 196,000 studies
showing 6,000 people with late cancer and 2,000 with cancer in the
early developmental stage.
"This goes to show that breast cancer is rather widespread, but it
is unacceptable to say it is the top illness in Armenia because we
haven't noticed such changes among people with cancer this year,"
says the Head of the Armenian-American Health Center.
The center has diagnosed 11 men with breast cancer and 4 of them
have died.
According to Khachanush Hakobyan, the center conducts studies through
state-of-the-art equipment and there is a lower risk of radiation
during mammography. Mammographic and ultra-sound studies cost 11,000
drams altogether and Khachanush Hakobyan doesn't think that women
can't save up 11,000 drams a year for their health.
According to Hakobyan, the first reason for the emergence of cancer
is inheritance, then come stress and an unhealthy lifestyle.
"We can't talk about a healthy lifestyle, clean air or staying far
from telephones, the Internet and the television set, but they do
have small rays," said Hakobyan.
According to the center's statistics, breast cancer is most widespread
in Gegharkunik province.
