"Let me tell the Azerbaijani unaccomplished sultan that "the right
to self-determination" means that the given people should determine
their fate," Armenian Republican Party spokesman Eduard Sharmazanov
told Panorama.am commenting on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's
statement.
"People's right to self-determination rules out that one nation decides
for another. If someone has been making decisions for Aliyev and his
country so far, it doesn't mean that he and his people can decide
for Artsakh. It's only Artsakh people who can do it. And they decided
still long ago that there is no alternative to Artsakh independence,"
Sharmazanov said.
Aliyev said in his speech at the government's sitting that:
"Azerbaijan's territorial integrity should be restored, Armenian
armed forces should withdraw from the occupied territories,
all the forcefully displaced Azerbaijanis should return to their
homes, including Nagorno-Karabakh. Without Azerbaijan's consent,
Nagorno-Karabakh cannot be granted any status and the issue makes
inseparable part of the negotiations."
