ARMENIAN-UKRAINIAN TRADE DECLINED BY 30-40% DURING CRISIS: AMBASSADOR

The outgoing Ukrainian ambassador to Armenia, Alexander Bozhko, said
today the bilateral trade between the two countries was affected
heavily by the economic crisis resulting in a 30-40% decline.
Speaking at a news conference he said the bilateral trade rose to
$310 million in 2008 from $118 million in 2005. He said the bilateral
intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation is working now
to try to restore the trade to before-the-crisis level.
'We are taking steps also to help Armenian and Ukrainian provinces
establish close contacts, especially in agriculture,' he said.
According to government data, Armenia's trade with Ukraine in the
first five months of 2010 rose by 52.5% year-on-year to about $96.7
million. Armenian exports to Ukraine rose by 25.4% to $4.8 million
(1.3% of the overall exports).
Alexander Bozhko served as ambassador to Armenia twice, from 1996
to 2001 and then from 2005 to 2010. According to a statement on the
official website of Ukrainian president, he will be replaced by Ivan
Kukhta.
