ARMENIA CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S DAY

On June 1, like many nations in many places around the world, Armenia
is celebrating the International Children's Day.
The ICD had its origin in the World Conference for the Wellbeing of
Children in Geneva, Switzerland in 1925. It is not clear as to why
June 1 was chosen as the ICD. One theory has it that the Chinese
consul-general in San Francisco (USA) gathered a number of Chinese
orphans to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival in 1925, which happened
to be on June 1 that year, and also coincided with the conference in
Geneva. Many nations declare days for children on other dates.
On the occasion of the International Children's Day Armenia's
Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Mkhitar Mnatsakanian has issued
a congratulatory message to country's children. Minister stressed that
the Armenian government is doing its best to protect children's rights
to insure a development for healthy, educated and free generation
that comes as our future.
"A range of programs are under realization both for children who
have parents and those who live in the children's community under a
managed care of the state structures, and this all for providing you
with full rights on your way towards for self-expression and growth,"
said in Ministry's address.
