The study on the Freedom of Religion in Armenia co-authored by
President of the Armenian Helsinki Committee Avetik Ishkhanyan,
journalist Vahan Ishkhanyan and sociologist Mary Yeranosyan was
presented in Yerevan today.
"The research aimed at studying the freedom of religion in Armenia,
the tolerance of media and the society, as well as the opinion of
different religious organizations about the regional tolerance and
freedom of religion in Armenia," President of the Armenian Helsinki
Committee Avetik Ishkhanyan said.
"The Law on the Freedom of Conscience and Religious Organizations was
adopted in 1991 and was amended several times. Now when we look back,
we see that the law is full of contradictions. We believe that it's
necessary to adopt new legislation, because the current law does not
provide for equal opportunities," Avetik Ishkhanyan said.
