THE UN SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON THE SITUATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS VISITED "EREBUNI" PENITENTIARY

On June 15, RA Minister of Justice Gevorg Danielyan received the
delegation led by UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human
rights defenders Margaret Sekaggia.
Among issues discussed during the meeting, Sekaggia was also interested
in discussing the draft law envisaging changes in and additions to
the RA Law on "Non-governmental organizations", as well as efforts
aimed at improving conditions for the detained.
Danielyan also listed the activities implemented in the mentioned
spheres and the results and attached importance to the continuation
and progress.
In the end of the meeting, Sekaggia requested the Minister's support
in translating the proclamation on UN Advocates in the national
language soon.
According to press secretary of the RA Minister of Justice Lana
Mshetsyan, before the meeting with the Minister, the delegates paid
a visit to "Erebuni" penitentiary where they met with the head of
the penitentiary and several detainees and studied the conditions
for maintenance.
