Armenia's Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan who is in the Russian city
of Saint Petersburg commented on the trilateral meeting of Armenian,
Azerbaijani and Russian presidents in St. Petersburg.
"As you know as a Minsk Group co-chair state Russia plays an important
role in the Karabakh settlement process. This is already the sixth
meeting that takes place upon the initiative and participation of
President [Dmitry] Medvedev. The previous meetings were held in Saint
Petersburg, Moscow and Chisinau. Today's meeting is the continuation
of the talks that have until now been held among the presidents. The
presidents of US and France fully back the meetings held upon Russian
president's initiative and mediation. In today's talks there was
registered what the parties had achieved during the talks. Today an
agreement was reached to continue the talks on this very basis. The
presidents instructed the foreign ministers to continue keeping
contacts. Active contacts will continue also with the [OSCE Minsk
Group] co-chairs," said Nalbandyan.
Further speaking about Madrid Principles he said the following:
"In the previous period, of course, there was the Madrid document
which was the only official document. Talks have continued until now
based on it. Various working proposals were made today. Today we have
registered what we have reached today and have agreed to continue
the talks based on it."
"The process continues. I think that today's meeting was constructive
and was a good harbor for the talks over Karabakh."
Tert.am's correspondent informs from St. Petersburg that today
President Serzh Sargsyan will hold a meeting with OSCE MG co-chairs
who plan to pay a visit to the region in July.
