EDWARD NALBANDIAN: EU IS A RELIABLE POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC PARTNER FOR ARMENIA

YEREVAN, MARCH 2, NOYAN TAPAN. On March 2, RA Foreign Minister Edward
Nalbandian met with the European Union delegation led by Miguel Angel
Moratinos, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain,
country presiding in EU.
E. Nalbandian characterizing the Armenia-EU interrelations said: "The
Armenia-EU relations are at a turning stage at present. The European
Union is a reliable political and economic partner for Armenia.
Eastern Partnership launched last year opens wide opportunities for
expanding cooperation in a number of spheres."
E. Nalbandian speaking about Armenia's priorities in the relations
with EU attached importance to the further expansion of the political
dialogue between Armenia and the European Union, signing of the
free trade agreement, facilitation of the entrance visa regime,
and launching negotiations on signing an association agreement.
Miguel Angel Moratinos presented the processes taking place in
EU after Lisbon Agreement's coming into force and prospects of
integration processes.
According to the RA Foreign Ministry Press and Information Department,
during the meeting the interlocutors also discussed issues related
to the Armenia-EU relations, ways of strengthening and expanding the
cooperation and joint measures to be undertaken in that direction. The
sides expressed satisfaction that efficient cooperation by a number
of formats proceeds between Armenia and EU.
The sides also touched upon issues related to expansion of the
interrelations between Armenia and Spain. The RA Foreign Minister said
that a decision had been made to open RA Embassy this year in Madrid.
Regional issues were also on meeting's agenda. Miguel Angel Moratinos
confirmed EU's unreserved assistance to steps undertaken to normalize
the Armenia-Turkey relations and expressed the hope that the sides will
ratify the signed protocols without preconditions and in reasonable
time constraints and will move forward.
Thoughts over the Nagorno Karabakh problem negotiations process were
exchanged. The RA Foreign Minister presented the latest developments
in the problem settlement.
