The Swedish parliament has recognized the resolution on recognition
of genocide of Armenians and Assyrians by Turks in the Ottoman Empire
in 1915.
According to the Swedish media, the draft resolution was submitted
for voting on the initiative of three opposition parties and endorsed
with numeral superiority of only one vote.
The Swedish parliament's Foreign Policy Commission suggested to refute
the draft which convicted genocides committed against other people.
The country's government was also against this resolution. When
visiting Sweden the Turkish parliament's delegation warned that
adoption of such a document can undermine seriously Swedish-Turkish
ties. Nevertheless, the document was passed. As a result, Turkey has
announced of recall of its ambassador from Sweden.
A similar resolution is to be discussed in the House of Representatives
of the US Congress, although the Department of State has already
claimed that the Obama Administration intends to block the resolution
voting in the Congress.
