TWO ARMENIAN CABINET MINISTERS RESIGN
ARKA
March 15, 2010
YEREVAN, March 15. /ARKA/. Two Armenian government ministers from the
Orinats Yerkir (Country of Law) party have tendered their resignation
applications, the party's press office said. They are transport
and communications minister Gurgen Sarkisian and emergency minister
Mher Shahgeldian.
A spokeswoman for the party, Susana Abrahamian, said the decision was
prompted by the process of reforming the party, which is part of the
ruling three-party coalition and introduction of what she described as
'personnel generator system.'
According to her, the vacated posts will be given to more skilled and
seasoned people. She said both Gurgen Sarkisian and Mher Shahgeldian
will be given other government jobs and will also remain on the
party's political council.
She said the position of agricultural minister, given to the party by
the power-sharing agreement, will be preserved by the current minister.
Orinats Yerkir is part of the ruling coalition together with the
Republican Party and Prosperous Armenia party, formed after 2008
presidential election.
