A book by turkologist Ruben Melkonian "Genocide-era Forced Islamisation
of Armenians: process and consequences" has been presented today
in Yerevan.
Ruben Melkonian said the book referrers to facts of Islamisation
of Armenians in 1915s, the process and consequences, in particular,
describes current situation. Author said the issue is one of the less
studied and poor known ones due to objective and subjective reasons.
History of thousands of Armenians, forced to convert to Islam and
forget their language, culture and people, began studying only three
years ago.
"I mainly used the Turkish resources, comparing them with Armenian
ones," told journalists Ruben Melkonian.
"Article 5 of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of
the Crime of Genocide brands forced conversion to other religion and
nationality as Genocide," he added.
