March 17, 2010
YEREVAN, March 17, /ARKA/. Armenian lawmakers voted today in the second
and last reading to pass a bill on making a change to the Family Code,
envisaging a tenfold rise of the minimum amount of alimony.
Hakob Hakobian, chairman of a parliament committee on social issues,
said the current minimum monthly amount of alimony is 1,000 Drams
($2.5) per one child. He said the bill proposes to raise this amount
to 10,000 Drams or $25.
In his words, there is a great deal of parents who have additional
incomes but refuse to pay alimonies. He said the bill, when enacted,
will allow to improve the social condition of children and protect
their rights.
