His Holiness Kirill I, the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, was
hosted in the Yerevan State University today. The Patriarch was
bestowed a title of the Honorary Doctor of the Univerity and was
awarded a gold medal.
"The day is particularly memorable, because this is the first time the
90-year-old university hosts the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia,"
YSU Rector Aram Simonyan said in his opening remarks.
The Armenian translations of the Patriarch Kirill's first two books
were presented the Yerevan State University.
The Russian Patriarch informed that during his visit to Armenia he had
conveyed an invitation to His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch
and Catholicos of All Armenians, to visit Baku.
"On behalf of the leader of the Muslim community of Azerbaijan and
myself I have invited His Holiness Karekin II to Baku to participate
in the conference initiated by the CIS Inter-religious Council. The
first conference was held in Moscow, the second will take place in
Baku. Thus, I have come with an invitation and proposed His Holiness
to participate in the conference. I think that our openness, which has
nothing to do with weakness and loss of national identity, is capable
of changing much in today's world," Patriarch Kirill of Moscow said.
