My words about expulsion of 100,000 Armenian immigrants living in
Turkey from the country have been misinterpreted by the Turkish
press, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was quoted as saying by
the CNN Turk.
"My word about deportation of illegal Armenians were misinterpreted
and were perceived as deportation of Armenians from Turkey, even
those who have Turkish citizenship," Erdogan said at a meeting of
the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).
"Unfortunately, the news was spread without regard to what I was
referring to the Armenian illegals and not all the Armenians in Turkey
".
Erdogan called on the Turkish journalists to defend interests of
their country.
He also raised the question of the Armenian-Turkish relations,
saying that the recent debates on so-called "Armenian genocide"
in the parliaments of several countries have an enormous impact on
normalization of the Yerevan- Ankara relations, adding that Turkey
will not suffer from it.
"History should not be discussed by parliaments," Erdogan added.
