That the Armenian Genocide has taken place is fact; however, the United
States shouldn't blame modern Turkey, said US Republican Senator and
presidential nominee in the last election John McCain in an interview
with Turkish TV station Haberturk.
"Your so-called Armenian issue is one of the genocides in your
history. However, the issue is that we cannot blame current Turkish
authorities and modern Turkey for it. I personally think that we
have to criticize the Genocide; however, on the other hand, we have
to look forward.
"There's an important issue of Islamic movements in the world, and in
that area, we need Turkey's assistance. And we mustn't forget that
Turkey is a democratic country," said McCain, adding that Turkey is
the United States' friend and ally.
