Azerbaijani MP: Sargsyan aims to mislead Armenian and world community

    27 March 2010 [11:27] - Today.Az

`Latest statements by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan surprised not
only Azerbaijan, but the entire world,' Member of the Azerbaijani
Milli Majlis (Parliament) Aydin Mirzazade said commenting on the
statements Armenian leader made when in Syria.

"Armenia is not ready to make unilateral concessions in the Karabakh
issue,' Armenia President Serzh Sargsyan said.

According to Sargsyan, everything depends on the proposals of the
Azerbaijani side. "We'll see what the Azerbaijani side will offer.
When such proposals are in place and we are proposed solutions (to the
Karabakh conflict), we will not keep them secret and will certainly
make them public,' the Armenian President said.

"Apparently, Sargsyan forgets that he is involved in negotiations to
settle the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and he has
constant contact with the Azerbaijani side. He forgets that, starting
from 2007, Armenia is committed to resolving this issue on the basis
of Madrid Principles, and following each meeting between Azerbaijani
and Armenian Presidents, the OSCE Minsk Group works on these
principles and presents proposals to the sides," Mirzazade said.

"All these proposals were submitted to the conflicting sides after the
January meeting of the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan which also
involved Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. What other proposals
Sargsyan expects Azerbaijan to make? Has Sargsyan not yet discovered
Azerbaijan's position for himself after meeting with Azerbaijani
    President?'

"I think he just wants to mislead Armenian and the world community
claiming that Armenia is generally not aware of Azerbaijan's position
on this conflict. Serzh Sargsyan already has proposals by the OSCE
Minsk on updated Madrid principles and Azerbaijan has already voiced
its consent except for some parts. Now it is up to Armenia," the MP
    added.

"Sargsyan offers Azerbaijan to conclude a nonaggression treaty while
Armenia itself has invaded 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory. He
expects some proposals from Azerbaijan although he received them long
ago by the Azerbaijani President and by the OSCE Minsk Group. Armenia
just wants to get away from the serious and constructive solution to
    this conflict,' MP Mirzazde underscored.

"Today, Armenia is at a crossroads. Either it will leave the
Azerbaijani lands and open border with Turkey and get engaged in a
serious state-building and rejuvenation of its economy, or Sargsyan
will retain his old stance while Azerbaijan will make serious
conclusions and consider other options to resolve the conflict," he
    said.

"I think it is high time for Armenia to draw serious conclusions. The
choice of the Armenian side is the choice of the Armenian statehood,"
    Mirzazade noted.
