The biggest mistake of Obama administration is that it did not exert
sufficient pressure on Turkish Justice and Development Party to approve
Armenia-Turkey Protocols not linking them with Karabakh conflict,
said Cory Welt, Associate Director of Institute for European, Russian
and Eurasian Studies at the Elliott School of International Affairs
of the George Washington University, Voice of America reports.
According to him, if Washington steps up pressure on Turkish ruling
party, it would have been clear for the U.S. that Karabakh issue is
a cornerstone from regional security viewpoint.
U.S. should change its posture towards Armenia and join Turkey
to demand concessions on Nagorno-Karabakh from official Yerevan,
Welt said.
It is necessary to restore the recently strained U.S.-Azerbaijan
relations, meanwhile seeking more effective ways to normalize
Armenia-Turkey relations, he concluded.
