LEBANESE PRIME MINISTER SAAD AL-HARIRI TO PAY OFFICIAL VISIT TO AZERBAIJAN

Baku. Lachin Sultanova - APA. Azerbaijani ambassador accredited also
in Syria Mahir Aliyev was on an official visit to Lebanon on April
25-29, Azerbaijani embassy in Syria told APA. Ambassador met with
Lebanese Prime Minister S. Hariri, Foreign Minister Ali al-Shami,
Sports and Youth Minister Ali Abdullah, Minister of Energy and Water
G. Basil Minister of Culture S. Varde and State Minister A. al-Gasser.
Delivering speech at the meeting held at the residence of Lebanese
Prime Minister S. Hariri, Ambassador gave detailed information on
current processes, reforms carried out in economic, cultural and
social spheres, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's independent
foreign policy course and neighboring countries in this policy,
relations with OIC member countries, as well as Nagorno Karabakh
conflict and its results. Thanking Azerbaijani President for the
opening of Lebanese embassy in Azerbaijan, al-Hariri noted that such
constructive decision had been met with great interest at Lebanese
political circles and that he accepted this step as political and
spiritual support for his country in such difficult days. Touching upon
friendly relations between his late father Rafig al-Hariri and Haydar
Aliyev, the Prime Minister said that if Azerbaijani government invites,
then he will be very glad to visit Baku, get acquainted with the head
of state and Azerbaijani phenomenon. The Prime Minister suggested
to prepare agreement projects for cooperation of mutual interest
of both sides and holding meetings with heads of state structures,
as well as with businessmen.
After the meeting with Prime Minister, Secretary General in the Cabinet
of Ministers noted that S. al-Hariri was expected to participate in
the 35th annual meeting of Islamic Development Bank Council of Chiefs
which would take place on June 23-24, 2010 in Baku.
His one-day visit to Baku is expected to take place for partaking at
the opening ceremony of the conference.
At all meetings, Lebanese officials noted that they support peaceful
solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict within the framework of the
territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
