About 80 delegates from 12 countries have arrived in Armenia to
participate in the 23rd European Regional Congress of the Parliamentary
Assembly of the Francophonie.
In his opening remarks Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia
Hovik Abrahamyan touched upon two important issues: settlement of the
Karabakh conflict and normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations.
"Armenia is willing to fulfill its international commitments, but
not at the cost of impairment of national interests. Unlike Armenia,
from the very beginning Turkey was avoiding to meet its commitments,
was trying to tie the protocols to the Karabakh issue, thus hindering
the normalization process," Hovik Abrahamyan said.
As for the Karabakh issue, the Speaker said "Azerbaijan is constantly
disseminating false information parallel to the increased cases of
ceasefire violations." "Well aware that it army will not ensure victory
in case military actions break out, Azerbaijan has been infected with
the virus of bellicose statements," he added.
