    Armenia

To remind the Armenian authorities of their responsibilities, the
International Federation of Human Rights (Federation internationale
des droits de l'homme (FIDH)) will keep in touch with them, Souhayr
Belhassen, President of the FIDH International Board, stated in her
interview with the Haykakan Zhamanak (Armenian Times) newspaper.

As to whether she keeps touch with the Armenian authorities and
remains consistent in supervising the resolution of a number of
problems presented to RA President Serzh Sargsyan - the release of
political prisoners, formation of an independent commission to study
the tragic events in Yerevan on March 1, 2008, reforms of the Armenian
judicial system, free access to information -- Souhayr Belhassen said
that all the questions addressed to the Armenian leader have to do
with the FIDH's major concerns over human rights. Souhayr Belhassen
expressed confidence that the Armenian authorities are informed of
the all the aforementioned problems, but much has yet to be done in
Armenia to improve the human rights situation in Armenia.

NEWS.am reminds readers that during her visit to Armenia last month,
Souhayr Belhassen held a meeting with RA President Serzh Sargsyan. She
raised voiced FIDH's concerns over the human rights situation in
Armenia, particularly over the problems of political prisoners.
