COORDINATING BOARD FOR THE PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS OF ARMENIANS FROM JAVAKHK IS CONCERNED WITH LOCAL ELECTIONS

The board issued a statement which in particular runs that on May 30,
in Georgia local elections are to take place. However, the Georgian
authorities with their own steps have already significantly impeded
the participation in elections of local Armenian forces protecting
the rights of Armenians from Javakhk. In particular, the Georgian
authorities have retained in force the legislative ban on the creation
of political associations of regional or territorial basis, according
to which, the Javakhk Party Virk was refuted.
The Georgian authorities made other steps violating the rights of the
Javakhk population as well. These facts create grounds to think that
before the start of the electoral process, the Georgian authorities
have already committed breaches of rights of national minorities.
One of the evident breaches of the Georgian government is the control
over the public life in Javakhk. Local law enforcers intervene in
elections in Javakhk.
Hence, the coordinating board for the protection of human rights
of Armenians from Javakhk calls on the observers, international
organizations, in particular the OSCE mission to pay attention and
to assess these facts, to exert pressure on the Georgian government
promoting the elimination of the policy of violation of the rights
of Armenians.
