On April 30, Javakheti politician Vahagn Chakhalyan, who was sentenced
by Georgian court to 10 years of imprisonment on fabricated charges,
was beaten by guards of Rustavi prison, where Chakhalyan is currently
serving his sentence.
The incident took place after Vahagn Chakhalyan's meeting with
his relatives. The guards, accompanying Chakhalyan to his cell,
started insulting the politician due to unknown reasons. Meanwhile,
Chakhalyan's answers to their insults were followed by application
of force against him, a representative of Yerkir Union told a
PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.
Chakhalyan did not want to tell his relatives about the incident and
refrained from medical aid. The politician disclosed details of the
incident to his lawyer.
This is the second similar incident with Chakhalyan. Last time he was
beaten on April 16, 2009. And it was supposed that a rally in front
of the Georgian embassy in France served as a reason for that incident.
The rally was organized by Armenian organizations of France in support
of the Javakheti politician.
