YEREVAN TO HOST THE FOURTH ANNUAL TOURISM COMPETITIVENESS CONFERENCE

The 4th Armenian Tourism Competitiveness Conference will take place in
Yerevan on May 13. As part of the ten-day event program (by Ministry
of Economy, the National Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia,
USAID-funded Competitive Armenian Private Sector) in May dedicated to
tourism, the conference will focus on the promotion of Armenia's image
as a tourism destination, adoption of best practices from countries
with rich tourism experience, and establishment of business networks.
It will also summarize the outcomes of activities implemented over
the last five years and will identify next steps.
CAPS Chief of Party Artak Ghazaryan will present progress made by the
Armenian tourism industry in recent years through CAPS financial and
advisory support, and will discuss how the adoption of international
corporate business practices have impacted the organizational
effectiveness and integration of the private sector. He will also
talk about legacy mechanisms to ensure the sustainability of this
annual event after the project's completion.
The conference will also feature the Director of the National
Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia, Pegor Papazian, who will
speak about tourism development policy and will outline current and
prospective projects.
CAPS Italian consultant Nadia Pasqual will present an analysis
of Armenia's promotion efforts in Italy since 2007. CAPS Senior
Competitiveness expert Alan Saffery will discuss how the tourism
industry has changed over the past 5 years and identify steps that
need to be taken in the future. Other presentations will touch upon
integration of tourism education and the business environment, as
well as annual tourism trade shows and opportunities they offer.
Regional tourism development opportunities will be presented by the
Advisor to the President of the Turkish Tourism Association TURSAB,
Ertugrul Karaoglu who will speak about the need for, and advantages
of, cooperation to increase the profitability of the tourism industry
and make the whole region more attractive for tourists.
Another speaker, President of the Armenian Chapter of the American
Society of Travel Agents, Yeghishe Tanashyan, will talk about the CTS
2010tourism fair. At the end of the event, conference participants
will come up with their conclusions and observations during the
questions and answers session.
