YEREVAN, MAY 13, ARMENPRESS: Armenian Agriculture Minister Gerasim
Alaverdyan received today Jacques Diouf, director general of the UN
Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
"In this hard financial and economic period the programs on
"Strengthening of Capabilities in the Sphere of Fishing", "Development
of Seed Breeding of Grain, Indian Corn and Potato", "Placing of
Agricultural Insurance System", "Calculation of Agricultural Animals",
which are of great importance for the further development of our
country, are being currently implemented, ," G. Alaverdyan noted.
According to him, the primary works implemented within the frameworks
of the above-mentioned programs, are already noticeable. The minister
said that the implementation of the program on "Neutralization of the
Tomb of the Landslide Zone of Nubarashen Pesticide Dump" has already
started with the support of the FAO.
G. Alaverdyan noted that the programs on "Construction of New
Slaughterhouses in Armenia", "Support to Armenia; Conduction of
Monitoring on Oversight of Pesticides Quality", "Restoration of Woods",
"Foundation of Genetic Center of Apricot" have been drafted, which have
been discussed with the representatives of the United Nations of Food
and Agriculture Organization. The minister said that by implementation
of the mentioned programs Armenia will become a more developed country
and will be able to help the countries which need support.
"It is a great honor to be today in Armenia and to conduct a forum
here for the first time," Jacques Diouf said. He noted that he has
got acquainted with certain works of the mentioned program hearing
new proposals and opinions. He assured that the support will be
of continuous nature, and the primary issues will be given a timely
solution. "The main goal of the FAO is to help the developing countries
to annihilate and solve poverty issues till 2015," J. Diouf said.
