The problems of Armenian population of Javakheti should be resolved
through dialogue between Yerevan and Tbilisi, according to Tachat
Vardapetyan, Armenian MP and head of the Unity of Armenians of Georgia
NGO.
`Javakhk should become a bridge between Armenia and Georgia. We
suppose that the Georgian authorities should soften their policy in
the region, what will be favorable for further development of
Armenian-Georgian relations,' he told journalists in Yerevan on May
15.
He also called on Armenian businessmen to make investments in Javakhk
to help solve social and economic problems there.
Commenting on Armenia-Turkey rapprochement, Tachat Vardapetyan said
that `Armenia has not exhausted diplomatic resources for normalization
of relations with Turkey.'
`The Armenian President's initiative was welcomed by the international
community,' he said, adding, however, that the process of
normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations failed to proceed
without preconditions.
According to the MP, the dialogue with Ankara did not hamper the
process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide. E
believes that many countries will still recognize the Armenian
Genocide in the future, and `recognition by Turkey would be the most
correct option.'
`I think that contemporary Turkey should give its assessment to the
fact, since it will improve Turkey's standing, as well,' Tachat
Vardapetyan said.
