YEREVAN, MAY 17, ARMENPRESS: 'After meeting with Armenian political
forces, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of
Europe Mevlut Cavusoglu understood that his initiative for revitalizing
the subcommittee on the NK issue within PACE is just condemned to
failure,' Naira Zohrabyan, deputy of the 'Prosperous Armenia' faction
and member of the Armenian delegation to PACE, told Armenpress today.
Naira Zohrabyan says there is no sense to discuss the NK issue out of
the format of the OSCE Minsk Group. She added that the same viewpoint
was expressed at the PACE April session by the CoE Secretary General
Thorbjorn Jagland and Micheline Calmy-Rey, head of the Swiss Federal
Department of Foreign Affairs.
According to Naira Zohrabyan, they stressed they did not consider
it appropriate to take any additional initiative for the NK issue in
parallel with the OSCE Minsk Group. 'The former President of PACE Luis
Maria de Puig had paused the process of revitalizing the subcommittee
on the NK issue, as he realized the existence of such a subcommittee
in PACE was inefficient.
I do not understand why Mr. Cavusoglu decided to revitalize the
subcommittee,' Naira Zohrabyan said. She informed a discussion on
the subcommittee was held during the PACE April session, in which
Mevlut CavuÅ~_oglu, Head of the Armenian parliamentary delegation
Davit Harutyunyan and Head of the Azerbaijani delegation Samat Seidov
took part. 'Arrangements were made to continue the consultations on
this theme. There was no essential discussion on revitalizing the
works of the subcommittee,' Naira Zohrabyan, member of the Armenian
delegation to PACE, said. She says the 'Prosperous Armenia' party does
not approve the existence of such a subcommittee in PACE.'We cannot
trust to the initiative a politician, who is one of the founders and
activists of the Turkish 'Justice and Development' party, and whose
position on the NK issue was biased and Azerbaijan-oriented.
The speeches of the members of the Azerbaijani parliamentary
delegation and the PACE President Mevlut CavuÅ~_oglu did not vary in
their positions. This politician is not reliable as PACE President,'
Naira Zohrabyan mentioned.
