IF YEREVAN IS CONSTRUCTIVE, NAGORNO-KARABAKH COULD BE SETTLED SOON - AZERI PRESIDENT

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict may be settled soon if Armenia is
constructive, Azeri President Ilham Aliyev said at a meeting with
King Abdullah II of Jordan on Sunday.

"We are trying to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict peacefully and
are holding constructive negotiations, so we expect Armenia to do the
same," state-run television quoted the president as saying. "If that
is so, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can be resolved very quickly."

Aliyev thanked King Abdullah II "for the outspoken support of Jordan
in the Nagorno-Karabakh issue," he said. "We thank you for the support
rendered at the United Nations. That is very important for us."

Aliyev stressed the importance of economic relations with Jordan.

"Hopefully, we will give more attention to bilateral economic
cooperation because we have to do a lot. Our businessmen have
established preliminary contacts, but we should use the potential
    better," he said.

The president said he had discussed economic cooperation and investment
    projects with the King.

"We intend to implement [these projects] in the near future," he said.

King Abdullah II said they had discussed the Israeli-Palestinian
peace process. "Progress in the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian
conflict on the two-state principle is an urgent need. That will assist
the creation of a sovereign and solid Palestinian state peacefully
and safely co-existing with Israel. That is very important for the
settlement of the conflict and the restoration of stability and
    security," he said.

The Jordanian King arrived in Azerbaijan on Saturday for an official
    visit.
