Inaguration of Ataturk`s monument A monument to the founder of the
Turkish Republic Mustafa Kemal Ataturk inaugurated in Azerbaijan`s
    capital, Baku on May 17.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva
and Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his spouse Emine Erdogan
attended the unveiling ceremony, which also brought together state
and government officials, MPs, scientists and members of the general
    public.

A ceremonial guard of honor was lined up for the ceremony in a park
in Baku`s Nasimi district. The Azerbaijani President and Turkish
Prime Minister delivered remarks at the ceremony.

President Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdogan unveiled the monument
and put a wreath at its foot.

After their extended meeting, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan
and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan have given a joint
press conference. The Azerbaijani President and Turkish Premier made
press statements and then responded to questions from journalists.

Answering the question whether borders between the two countries
will be opened or not if Armenia accepts updated Madrid proposals,
President Aliyev said Azerbaijan had been searching peaceful way
during 16 years of fruitless negotiations since ceasefire was reached
in 1994. He said Azerbaijan accepted the updated Madrid proposals
with little exclusions and was expecting Armenia to accept it.

Despite 6 months have passed since the proposals was put forward,
Armenia has not given positive response, said Azerbaijani President
and added that Armenia intended to conduct endless negotiations in
    this manner.

The head of state said Azerbaijan wouldn't allow it.

'The negotiations must have certain frames and time limit. The Minks
Group was established in 1992. The negotiations are going on for almost
20 years. Armenia always broke off the negotiations when the solution
was approached. Unfortunately the same position is observed today.

Armenia will respond positively to the proposals of the OSCE Minsk
Group and we will approach the solution or the process will be broken
and a new stage will be started between Armenia and Azerbaijan. If
Armenia positively responds the proposals and starts to withdraw
its invasion troops from the Azerbaijani lands, Azerbaijan will
open borders and peace and security measures will be carried out in
    the region'.

'One of the most important decisions we have taken at the meeting
with honorable President is the establishing of Strategic Cooperation
Council. This organization will cover all spheres and it will be the
most important step towards the future of Turkey and Azerbaijan',
said Turkish Prime Minister Receb Tayyib Erdogan at a joint press
conference with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Baku,
    reports CNN Turk.

He said experts of both countries were seriously working on this issue.

'I hope we can lay foundation of this organization during the
visit of honorable Aliyev to Istanbul. In parallel, we have to
develop economic relationship further and to move from the existed
point. Azerbaijan could overcome the international financial crisis
and use the opportunities. Turkey also had few losses during the
crisis. Our solidarity will move us to more different level in future'.

Turkey and Azerbaijan are completing work over the gas agreement,
said Turkish Prime Minister Receb Tayyib Erdogan at a joint press
conference with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Baku,
    reports CNN Turk.

He said the gas agreement was expected to be signed during the
President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Turkey. 'We will take this step
during the visit of honorable President to Turkey'.

Erdogan said the President of Azerbaijan would visit Istanbul, Turkey
    in June.
