NA SPEAKER VISITS GAFESJIAN ART CENTER

Today on the occasion of the International Museum Day Armenian
National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan visited the Gafesjian Art
Center. Accompanied with Culture Minister Hasmik Poghosyan the head
of the legislative body toured in the exhibition halls of the center
and got acquainted with the exhibited works.
Today within the frameworks of a program on making the cultural
heritage available for everybody, the Gafesjian Art Center also hosted
disabled people - the members of "UNISON" NGO.
H. Abrahamyan listened to the performances of the symphonic orchestra
of Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas and of "Paros" chamber
chorus.
Armen Alaverdyan, chairman of "UNISON" NGO, was awarded with Culture
Ministry's golden medal for implementation of outstanding public work.
He told the NA speaker that the organization faces an issue of a
territory, which H. Abrahamyan promised to solve.
Artak Davtyan, chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Education,
Culture, Youth and Sport Affairs, said that the expression, according
to which Armenia is an open-air museum, corresponds to reality, as the
Armenians have rich cultural heritage, of which they can be proud. The
NA speaker proposed the committee to organize the concert of "Paros"
in the National Assembly, which will be implemented in the court if
the parliament in near future.
Over 5 thousand works from Jerald Gafesjian's private collection are
presented in Gafesjian Art Center, including one of the most extensive
collections of feature glassmaking throughout the world - the works
of Stanislav Libensky and Yaroslava Brikhtova. The collection of
the center also includes works of such distinguished art masters as
Arshile Gorky, Fernando Bottero, Jennifer Bartlet.
