ArmInfo. The problem of poaching still remains one of the most relevant
problems in Armenia , the leader of 'Ekolur' Inga Zarafyan said at
today's press-conference. She also added that the red book animals
still remain the most desirable for hunters, among which top officials
are often noticed. 'We reiterated many times that a functionary
from the military police with a nickname Shakal killed 3 leopards
during 3 years. But such information is still ignored by the relevant
structures. This creates an atmosphere of impunity in the country', -
Zarafyan said and added that reduction of population of exotic species
of animals is a result of the frank pledge. 'If several years ago
there were 7-8 leopards in the country, today there are 3', - she said.
Unfortunately, Armenian Nature Protection Ministry is not the best
assistant in the matter of fighting poaching. As the leader of 'Bird
lovers center' Silva Adamyan said, an attempt to draw the ministry's
attention to killing of birds in 'Armash' lakes region had no success.
She also added that "Ararat-Safari" implements such killing of birds
at this territory. 'The fact that the lakes are private property
complicates the situation much. After getting the reply from Nature
Protection Ministry we do not actually know who to apply to for making
answerable the persons which go in for poaching', - Silva Adamyan
said. She also touched on the problem of export of the rare species
of birds and insects from the republic for sale. 'The ecologists feel
solicitude for successful development of this business', - she said.
