    FOUR PARTIES AND 40 MAJORITY CANDIDATES ARE PARTICIPATING IN THE MAY 23 NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS IN ARTSAKH

    The NKR National Assembly elections through proportional representation
    and majority elections will be held on May 23. According to the NKR
    Electoral Code, 17 of the National Assembly's 33 deputies will be
    elected through proportional representation by the list of candidates
    from parties, while 16 will be elected through majority elections.

    There are 4 political parties participating in the elections through
    proportional representation:

    NKR Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan heads the list of 35 candidates
    of "Free Homeland".

    Democratic Party of Artsakh (32 candidates, the list is headed by
    Chairman of the NKR National Assembly Ashot Ghulyan)

    Armenian Revolutionary Federation (10 candidates, the list is headed
    by Assistant Director of "Tufenkian" Benevolent Fund Armen Sargsyan)

    Communist Party of Nagorno-Karabakh (5 candidates, the list is headed
    by unemployed Hrant Melkumyan)

    There are 40 candidates nominated at 16 precincts through majority
    elections. There is one candidate nominated at the 7th and 14th
    precincts respectively, including existing chairman of the National
    Assembly Ashot Ghulyan and executive director of "Regional Medical
    Unit of Martakert" CJSC, non-partisan Gagik Ohanyan. There are a
    maximum of 4 candidates nominated at 6 precincts.

    The vote will be held on May 23 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 273 polling
    stations of which 272 in the NKR and Armenia (16 precincts of the
    NKR and 1 at the administrative building of the NKR representation
    in Yerevan).

    According to the schedule of the main events for preparing and
    holding the National Assembly elections, the preliminary results of
    the elections will be summed up and ratified on May 24-the results
    of the majority elections will be summed up by 2 p.m. and the results
    of the vote through proportional representation by 8 p.m.
