On May 21, 2010, the USAID-funded Small Scale Infrastructure Program
(SSIP), implemented by Cooperative Housing Foundation International
(CHF) and Shen NGO, marked the completion of renovation works at the
Jujevan village school sport hall in Tavush province. The ceremony was
attended by Deputy Governor of Tavush Levon Sargsyan, USAID/Armenia
Project Management Specialist Simon Sargsyan, Mayor of Jujevan Zhora
Chilingaryan, School Director Valery Vardanyan, representatives of
USAID, CHF, Shen NGO and community members.
Eighty seven students of the Jujevan school will now receive regular
physical education classes. In addition, the community will be able
to hold large meetings and extracurricular activities. Karate classes
are already slated for resumption in near future.
"Over the next year, SSIP will renovate 40 additional priority gas
and water systems, sport halls and kindergartens across Armenia. USAID
has focused on rural communities, which suffer not only from lack of
jobs, but from lack of basic services. Last year in Tavush, the USAID
SSIP renovated the external lighting of Sevkar and Teghut communities,
and USAID has just completed a reception hall in Aygedzor. USAID will
continue its efforts in the marz and will also renovate the Sevkar
kindergarten and provide quality drinking water to the Kirants,
Chinari, Choratan and Ardzvabert communities," said Simon Sargsyan.
