ArmInfo. We hope for continuation of the Armenian-Turkish dialogue,
Ambassador of Russia to Armenia Vyacheslav Kovalenko said during the
international conference "Situation in the Caucasus and Prospects of
Regional Security".
"Nevertheless, Armenia and Turkey have not yet succeeded to achieve
a result that will make it possible to recover relations between the
two neighbouring states and create conditions for promotion of healthy
atmosphere and enhancing stability in the Caucasus. However, I think
that the process of normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations
will be continued and logically completed in full compliance with
both parties' interests", the ambassador said.
On April 22, on the eve of the 95th Anniversary of Armenian Genocide in
Ottoman Turkey, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree on
suspension of the procedure of ratification of the Armenian -Turkish
protocols. Armenia shall retain its signature under the Protocols,
because of desire to maintain the existing momentum for normalizing
relations, because of desire of peace. On January 12 2010 the
Constitutional Court of Armenia recognized the commitments in the
Armenian-Turkish Protocols in compliance with the Constitution of
Armenia. The Protocols were signed in Zurich on October 10 2009. To
come into effect, the both documents are to be ratified by the two
countries' parliaments.
