CONSTRUCTION OF YEREVAN-ASHTARAK ROAD SECTOR TO START IN SPRING 2011

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS: The tender packages for reconstruction
of Yerevan-Ashtarak 11,71km-long road sector which is part of
the "North-South" road corridor opened today at the Transport
and Communication Ministry. Minister Manuk Vardanyan said that 11
companies submitted applications for participation in the open tender
and today Austrian "Strabag", American "Fele Technologies" and
Spanish "MJ gruas" presented applications. Manuk Vardanyan said
taking into consideration that for the first time in Armenia road
corresponding to international standards will be built, it means new
culture of road construction is being imported to Armenia.
"New standards, approaches will be applied for the "North-South"
road corridor," he said, adding that they will work publicly and
called on big companies to participate in the works of other phases
of the corridor construction.
"Strabag" and "Fele Technologies" presented guarantee for 400 000
USD and the Spanish "MJ gruas" - 144 million 800 AMD. The Austrian
company suggested spending 51 million 141 000 USD for Yerevan-Ashtarak
road construction, and the US company 18 million 944 000 and the
Spanish one 22 million 618 000 USD.
The contractor must reconstruct the cover of the Yerevan-Ashtarak road
sector, improve the water removal systems, ensure the road safety,
restore the structures on Yerevan-Ashtarak road. The intended works
will be co-financed by the Asian Development Bank and Armenia. "The
name of the winner company will be known in a month when the assessment
commission gives its conclusion and organizes discussion at the
management council," the minister said, adding that the construction
of Yerevan-Ashtarak road sector will start in spring of the coming
year. The works are intended to be finished October 1 2012.
