YEREVAN, November 1, /ARKA/. Armenia should concentrate its efforts on
developing innovative sectors of economy, Dominic Barton, the Managing
Director of McKinsey & Company, said October 30 when addressing the
participants of the third conference of the National Competitiveness
Fund of Armenia in Yerevan.
He said if Armenia fails to do so it will be ousted from consumer
markets. He said Armenian authorities should change the main economic
accents by shifting from imports to local production. He said if
he were an Armenian businessman he would buy also mines and land in
other countries. In his words, quick development and improvement of
quality of goods and services has become an imperative.
Dominic Barton said also Armenia should make efforts to improve
its competitiveness. He said Armenia will have to go a long road to
improve its current competitiveness level.
In the global rating of competitiveness prepared by World Economic
Forum Armenia dropped one notch from last year's position to stand
now on 98-th position.
"Armenia has a strategically important position, which might make
the country the beacon of development in the region. I would pick
no other country but Armenia if I were to set headquarters in the
region," Barton stated, urging Armenia to strive towards making a
difference in the region.
