Yerevan is out of control of the RA Ministry of Urban Development. The
city is full of illegal structures, Lilit Galstyan, a member of the
Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D), stated
in Parliament.
"The residents' constitutional rights are violated because of
businessmen's interests," she said. Galstyan applied to the Ministry
of Urban Development for information on the legality of three
construction projects in Yerevan. According to her, the ministry
did not provide any information, particularly that on environmental
examination. The MP pointed out that no public discussions were held,
which is a violation of the RA Law on Urban Development.
The post of head architect was instituted in 2008, but its functions
have not so far been determined. "After all, it is not a caliphate,
but a country with a Constitution and laws that must be protected by
official agencies," Galstyan said.
In response, RA Minister of Urban Development Vardan Vardanyan only
confirmed such problems in Yerevan. He added that the situation can
be improved through cooperation rather than accusations.
