"ARMENIAN CROSS-STONES' ART. SYMBOLISM AND CRAFTSMANSHIP OF KHACHKARS" INCLUDED IN INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE LIST

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 22, ARMENPRESS: At the fifth session of the UNESCO
intangible cultural heritage in Nayrobi November 17 a decision was made
to include the "Armenian cross-stones art. Symbolism and Craftsmanship
of Khachkars" into the list of renowned intangible cultural heritage.
Press and Information Department of the Armenian Foreign Ministry
told Armenpress that the whole package about cross-stones was jointly
prepared and passed to the UNESCO headqaurter by the Armenian Culture
Ministry and Armenian National Commission on UNESCO Affairs.
The intangible cultural heritage is the entity of traditions, custom
and cultural expressions as well as knowledge and skills which certain
groups of people recognize as part of their self-consiuosness and
cultural heritage.
Taking into consideration that cross-stone is a living tradition for
all Armenians, its involvement in the list will create a wide circle
of knowledge, traditionas and crafts preservation for passing it to
next generations. It will also guarantee the recogntion of Armenian
cultural values and respect toward it.
