"LET'S MAKE THE ROADS SAFE" INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN YEREVAN

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 23, ARMENPRESS: About one million people become
victims of the road traffic accidents and about 20 million get
injured annually. Armenian Transport and Communication Minister
Manuk Vardanyan stated today at the "Let's make the roads safe"
international conference that the number of victims of the road
accidents exceeds the number of victims of railway, aviation and
navy transport accidents all together and that is the reason why the
fighting against automobile transport accidents is one of the elements
of Armenia's national policy.
Manuk Vardanyan said during the recent periods reforms have been
undertaken in Armenia's road traffic security sphere.
Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan who was also present at the
conference considered very important the road safety in Armenia. "We
have still a lot to do in this sphere and the assistance of the public
and its active involvement facilitate our work," Tigran Sargsyan said.
Head of the RF road police department Viktor Kiryanov, head of
the RA road traffic security national council secretariat Poghos
Shahinyan, head of the World Bank Armenia office Jan-Michel Appi and
representatives of the sphere came forth with reports.
The international conference concludes the row of events in Yerevan
on the eve of international program on "Decade of Activities" of the
2011-20 road safety.
November 12-14 in Tsakhkadzor another international conference was
conducted on "Road Safety in the Media Field" with the participation
of media representatives from the region.
