ARMENIAN WOMEN ASSESS "2010 YEAR OF THE ARMENIAN WOMAN"
AT A CONFERENCE IN ANTELIAS BEGINNING ON
THE INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

In January 2010, through a Pontifical Letter, His Holiness Aram I declared
the year as "Year of Armenian Woman". In his letter he urged Dioceses to
reassess the place and contributions of women in different aspects of
    community life and decision-making bodies.

At the end of this calendar year, His Holiness is inviting representatives
from dioceses to meet at the Catholicosate in Antelias 25-27 November, a
date that coincides with the "UN International Day for the Elimination of
Violence Against Women". The conference will first receive progress reports
from the Dioceses and set priorities for the continuation of the work. It is
also expected that the conference will make a statement on violence against
women and affirm the positive contribution of women in establishing just
    peace and security.
