N. ZLOBIN: ARMENIA IS VERY ROMANTIC... IT SHOULD BECOME MORE CYNICAL

"With ancient history, I think, Armenia has a romantic view to
life and I am deeply convinced that your country should behave more
cynically, in the wide sense of the word," Nikolai Zlobin, Russian
-American political scientist, journalist and researcher Senior
Fellow, Director of the Russia and Eurasia Project at the World
Security Institute in Washington, told Panorama.am. Nikolai Zlobin
is in Yerevan to participate in the 2-day conference "Security and
Information Cooperation Issues in the South Caucasus".
Zlobin reiterated his thesis that Armenia shouldn't stick to its past
but should live with the present and fight for the future.
What does it mean: Armenia should become more cynical. To the inquiry
whether it implies that Azerbaijan is more cynical (as to cut it mild,
Armenian-Azerbaijani complicated relations are lying in the context
of the issue), the political scientist said it is so.
"Though Karabakh issue is a burden for Azerbaijani side as well,
Azerbaijan started to have more rational views to things, like
involvement in global issues, access to global energy market, "good"
relations with major players, etc," he said.
"Of course, I can't say that this is a ruling tendency in Azerbaijan,
but, to me, they look more forward nowadays that they used to some
time ago," Zlobin highlighted.
He added, however, it wouldn't be right to consider all these as
Azerbaijan's trump card from the point of view of Karabakh conflict,
as he confessed he doesn't know how the issue could be regulated.
