New Armenian NPP haunts Azerbaijan

On October 1, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov met
with Jan Kubis, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for
Europe, in Geneva.
The sides noted successful cooperation within the framework of UN
Economic Commission for Europe in energy sector, transport, ecology,
customs, information and communication technologies, Azerbaijani
foreign office reported.
Khalaf Khalafov expressed Azerbaijan's concern over construction of a
new NPP in Armenia (on the basis of Metsamor nuclear power station),
saying it may become a serious threat to ecology, social and economic
situation in the region, the statement reads. However, Azerbaijani
official failed to explain the essence of the threat, apart from
strengthening Armenia's energy independence.
