Artur Ghukasyan, editor of the "Hayrenik" weekly published in Spain
called on the media in the diaspora to spread the word about the
needs of Javakhk and to see to it that assistance sent there actually
reaches those in need.
Mr. Ghukasyan made the pleas at the recent Forum of Armenian
Journalists that took place in Stepanakert, capital of the Armenian
Republic of Artsakh (ARA). He was commenting on the remarks made by
Myasnik Khrimyan, a reporter with the Akhalkalak-based "ATV-12â~@³
television station, regarding the security and other issues faced by
Armenian journalists in Javakhk.
Mr. Ghukasyan remarked that his paper periodically covered developments
in Javakhk and attempts made by the Georgian authorities to depopulate
the region of Armenians.
He declared that Javakhk would never become another Nakhijevan
(referring to the autonomous region of Azerbaijan whose Armenian
population was forced out during Soviet rule), but rather a new
Artsakh.
Mr. Ghukasyan called for the adoption of a new strategy regarding
Georgia which would seek to foster good relations rather than enmity.
The editor said Armenians must become con artists to a certain degree
like our opponents and that politics of the 21 century demands such
an approach.
